Tooth bleaching - whitening of the teeth - is ever more popular

The media - especially the film industry, television, magazines or billboards - are full of people smiling at us with immaculate white teeth. Have you by any chance also asked yourselves if such teeth are real?
But regardless of the answer, the fact remains. White teeth make people likeable. And a look in the mirror proves all too mercilessly how far one is from one's own ideal.

The cosmetics industry has recognized this potential too and is overwhelming prospective clients with a variety of products. If we were to believe the ads, one can get Brad Pitt's or Julia Robert's bright smile for just a couple of Euros.

But this is unfortunately a false conclusion, as a test by the editorial department of Servicezeit Gesundheit from the WDR has shown.
They tested products from pharmacies, cosmetics stores and the Internet (Home Bleaching):
  1. Blend-a-med Whitestrips
  2. Odol med 3 Total white
  3. Colgate simply white
  4. Rapid white
at prices ranging from € 13 to € 50. The result is devastating. Only one of the products, "Blend-a-med Whitestrips", leads to a slight whitening of the teeth one colour tone upward.

The DieEndverbraucher team has therefore decided to approach this the other way around. We have searched for the most gentle and most efficient bleaching methods available, and then we have optimised the prices. But first, some information regarding

What you have to consider before a bleaching

Before every teeth whitening you should go to your dentist for a routine checkup. The teeth have to be perfectly clean, free of tartar and plaque, because the bleaching agent will not work on those spots. That is why, in most cases, it is recommended that you get a professional preliminary cleaning.
Very important to avoid misunderstandings: all bleaching methods (White Strips, Home Bleaching, BriteSmile, Skysmile, ...) can only whiten natural tooth material. This means that all tooth-coloured dental prostheses such as: ceramic crowns, ceramic inlays, ceramic fillings, dressed bridges, etc. will maintain their colour and will not get any whiter. You might have to replace them after the bleaching.

Our recommended bleaching methods

are possible only at the dentist's or in close collaboration with your dentist. However, the results speak for themselves. BriteSmile, our favourite method, accomplishes a gentle teeth whitening of 9 colour tones upward (on the worldwide Vitapan Palette) in approximately one hour. This result can be maintained, with corresponding tooth care, for about 2 to 3 years. Skysmile whitens the teeth 5 tones upward, and the result lasts for about 2 years.
Both methods are better suited to remedy tooth colouring as a result of coffee, tea, nicotine or red wine consumption, rather than to whiten teeth which are by nature very yellow or dark. At the same time, current research has indicated that professional bleaching does not cause long-term damages to living teeth - not teeth with dead roots.
